Cerulean, Cobalt, and Phthalo are all pretty pigments, but no blue is as deep and cold as Ultramarine, my favourite.

I am Magdalene Bouchard, an illustrator, painter, and Adobe devotee located in Toronto Canada.

I’m a detail obsessed OCAD University graduate with a degree in Illustration and pockets full of whatever paper I can find on the street. If you drop it, I’ll make a collage out of it. My work revolves around stories; the stories happening in our cities during protests and parties, the tacky and shrieking stories I enjoy in horror movies, and my own stories of being a lonely kid who hung off every word in the Bible, only to become estranged from God and more deeply acquainted with the world around me.

I work to share the intense peril and excitement of imagination, as well as the empathy necessary for telling human stories. My figures stare back, my style is textured and brass-knuckled, and my commentary is dark, funny, and relatable.

When I’m not furiously sketching for work or losing my eyesight in exchange for tiny wrinkles on a portrait, I’m happily squeezing clay into lumpy frogs for fun and rewatching Steven King’s Room 1408. Personal projects like pixel animations, hand-stitched plushies, and my blue ink series can be found on my Instagram page. If you would like to know how I create my work, professional and otherwise, check out my process page.

Everyone has interests, whether it’s a fascination with weevils, a passion for slasher flicks, or a not-so-small obsession with gacha games- feel free to share your passions and projects with me! I love receiving messages and recommendations.
